Setting an Athena Range to Practice Mode

"Practice mode" means that the individual firing points are controlled by the respective athlete Monitor on that firing point. Orion has very little control over the range when in practice mode. Instead, the athlete monitor controls the course of fire, type of target, and range time.

While Orion does not have to be running while the range is in practice mode, the Network Manager does need to be up and running.

When sending practice mode to Athena targets, the default tape feed is set to 16mm.

There are two ways to set the range up in practice mode. When sending practice mode from Orion to the range, all data on the firing points will be overwritten.

Send Practice Mode to Targets Button

The Send Practice Mode to Targets button looks like a set of playing cards. Clicking it will set the firing points to practice mode using the last used Informal Practice Course of Fire sent from Orion. By default, this is the Air Rifle informal practice.

Send Practice Mode to Targets Menu Option

From the menu bar, by clicking on Athena -> Send Practice Mode to All Firing Points, the user may choose which type of informal course of fire is sent. The options are:

1.Air Rifle, which uses the v1.0:orion:Informal Practice COURSE OF FIRE definition.

2.Air Pistol, which uses the v1.0:orion:Informal Practice Air Pistol COURSE OF FIRE definition.

Athena Software Version

In order to push a practice mode, all EST Units must be at a compatible version. Orion will prevent pushing a new course of fire if the EST Units are not. See Updating Athena's Software for more information.
