Glossary R

Word

Meaning

Rank

The current standing of an athlete or team. A rank of 1 means the participant is currently winning. A rank of 2 means the participant is currently in second place. And so on.

Range Officer

The Chief Range Officer is in charge of the conduct of range firing and is responsible for range safety and range operations. Their duties include giving range commands and instructions, ensuring athletes’ equipment and positions conform to the Rules, correcting any technical range faults, receiving protests, and resolving all irregularities such as disturbances, penalties, malfunctions, irregular shots, extra time allowed, etc. In larger competitions, Assistant Range Officers are appointed to assist the Chief Range Officer. Range Officers have the right to examine the athlete’s positions and equipment at any time. During a competition, Range Officers should not approach an athlete while they are firing a shot. Immediate action must, nevertheless, be taken when a matter of safety is involved. 1

Reconfigurable Rulebook

Scopos' "Reconfigurable Rulebook" is an open standard that allows users to define their own attributes, courses of fire, targets, event and state styles, ranking rules, and results. With this technology the possibilities are nearly endless in terms of how a match is defined. Users finally have the power to create matches exactly how they want to run them.

To use this technology, users create what are known as "Definitions." Definitions are defined using the well known JSON file format. Reconfigurable Rulebook compliant systems, including Orion and Athena, read in the Definition files and formats the match according to the file. Users can create definition files just for themselves, or upload them to Orion's cloud and share them with other users.

Record Fire Shot

Record Fire shots are shots that count in the athlete’s score. 1

Result List

Formally, a Result List is raw data of competitor performance from an event. Includes all competitors and all (reasonable) data from the competition. During the Future and Intermediate status of the competition Includes an absolute and predictive ranking of competitors based on their performance.

Scopos provides Result Lists in json format, the definition of the format may be found in our REST API documentation.

Commonly, a "result list" is a reference to a formatted and sorted Result List, formally called an Ordered Result List.

Result List Axiom

The Result List Axiom establishes a basic set of rules that all shooting competitions should follow to maximize spectator engagement and appeal.

1.Ranked results should be live, automated, and available both on-premise and online.

2.Rank athletes and teams according to their predicted scores during the competition.

3.Provide a final ranking immediately after the last shot with athletes ranked according to all appropriate rules.

Result List Status

Result Lists will exist in one of four statuses, future, intermediate, unofficial, and official. Depending on the status Orion will rank athletes and teams in different ways.

Future: The competition has not started, athletes and teams are sorted by their display name.

Intermediate: The competition has started, but not completed, athletes are still firing. Athletes and teams are sorted by their Predictive Score.

Unofficial: The competition or relay has concluded, all athletes have finished firing. Athletes and teams are sorted by their completed scores using well established tie breaking rules.

Official: The competition has concluded, all athletes on all relays have finished firing, and the Match Director has closed out scoring. Like the unofficial status, athletes and teams are sorted by their completed scores using well established tie breaking rules.

Result List System

An automated system to update, rank (absolute and predictive), disseminate, and display Result Lists, live and in a compelling format. Must function before, during, and after a competition.
