Competition Goals
The school county has 15 JROTC teams. They are divided into East and West regions. Each team will compete in a series of smaller regional shoulder to should matches over a period of five weeks. The selection to the county championship is the top team from the East and West region, then the next four teams overall from the country. The course of fire, for both the regional matches and the country championship is a 3x10, all athletes and teams are Sporter.
Solution
The first step is to appoint a designated Tournament Administrator. They will be responsible for setting up the Tournament, creating the Matches, and composing the Merged Result Lists. This Tournament Administrator should have in depth knowledge and experience with Orion. By appointing one person, you simplify the overall process for all 15 schools.
The Tournament Administrator should create one Tournament.
Create four Merged Result Lists, East Regional Teams, West Regional Teams, Teams Overall, and Individual Overall. In each case the Merge Method should be Average, Score Format can take the default, Score Config may be Decimal or Integer (just be consistent), Count Top Scores is 0 (to count all scores), and Required Scores is 1.
Later, as the country competitions progress, the matches will be added as Members, and the Result Lists will be added to the Merged Result List.
Tournaments work when athlete and team display names are the same in each Match. The best way to do this is to create a shared set of Excel Files with columns for First Name, Last Name, Display Name, Competitor Number, Email, Organization, and Region. Google and Microsoft both offer solutions to create and share these files. Each coach would be responsible for creating the file for their team.
Note, email is important so the athletes scores can be linked to their Scopos' Score History account.
The Tournament Administrator will create each Regional Match as a Virtual Match. They will set the Virtual Match up as a 3x10 course of fire. In the Categories tab, the 3 Pos. Air Rifle Type is automatically checked (keep this). Additionally select the Organization category, and type in "East" and "West" as the values. These will represent the East and West regions.
There should be one Virtual Match, created by the Tournament Administrator, for each Regional Match.
A few days before the Regional Match is set to begin, the Tournament Administrator adds the hosting school as a Child. This way, the hosting school simply has to download the match, it will already have been configured for them. The hosting school then has to add the teams and athletes to their match, and specify their Region in Orion.
After each Regional Match is created, the Tournament Administrator should add the Match as a Member to the Tournament.
Then add:
•Individual - Sporter Result List to the Individual Overall Merged Result List.
•Team - Sporter Result List to the Team Overall Merged Result List
•Team - Sporter - East to the East Regional Teams Merged Result List
•Team - Sporter - West to the West Regional Teams Merged Result List
